A New Year, and a Healthier New You

The new year is a wonderful time to start fresh and begin making changes towards a healthier you. Why not start the year off right and incorporate a few healthy habits into your life? Even small actions in your diet and lifestyle can make a big difference towards improving your overall health, happiness and well-being.

One way you can improve your health that is gaining popularity is through meditation. Meditation is the practice of sitting still and breathing in a controlled manner for extended periods of time. The practice of meditation has been around for ages, but it has recently become very popular again and is an excellent way to regulate your mental and physical well-being.

Rancho Sahuarita will be hosting a series of sessions this spring to give residents the opportunity to try the practice out. Mary Ann Rueger will be hosting an introduction to meditation at a workshop called “New Year, New You!” on Saturday, January 11th at Club Rancho Sahuarita from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mary Ann has practiced many forms of meditation and yoga for the past 50 years in both the U.S. and Thailand. The workshop will encompass Pranama (breathing) and Yoga Nidra (guided meditation) while standing and sitting. Registration on Activenet is necessary for this free workshop. There is limited seating, so be sure to sign up soon. Mary Ann also offers weekly meditation sessions immediately following her Yoga classes every Tuesday morning. Yoga begins at 10:00 a.m. and the meditation starts at 11:00 a.m.

Another opportunity for residents to learn the art of meditation and find complete relaxation is offered every Monday evening at Club Rancho Sahuarita from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Karen of Open Lotus Meditation offers a Sound Healing and Meditation session. Sound healing benefits include feeling re-energized, finding balance and increased healing. Attendees should bring a yoga mat (a few will be available), a comfy blanket, a pillow and water. This meditation session is $20 per person. RSVP’s or questions can be sent via text to Karen at 267-303-0577 or by email to Karen@openlotusmeditation.com

Studies have shown that meditation reduces stress, lowers anxiety and anger levels, improves sleep and improves your overall outlook on life. Start the new year off right and make self-care a priority in your life today.
