Aquatics Team Creates a Better Life in Rancho Sahuarita

Summer is in full swing and the Aquatics Staff at Rancho Sahuarita are busy instructing swim lessons and making sure residents have a safe summer while enjoying the pool and Splash Park at Club Rancho Sahuarita.

The seven swim instructors, on staff at Rancho Sahuarita are WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certified through the Red Cross and are trained to teach safety and swimming skills to all ages. By the end of the summer, they will have instructed approximately 200 children in various swimming styles, such as breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and side stroke. The instructors also teach children water safety techniques, including how to enter and exit the pool safely and making sure they apply sunblock.

Stephanie Stringe, Aquatics Swim Coordinator, says she is very proud of her team. “They work really hard and are very passionate about making sure they see growth and improvement in each of their students.” She went on to say, “the instructors specialize in recognizing areas they see swim students struggling in and focus on finding ways to help them improve.”

35 Lifeguards and 5 Headguards make up the rest of the Aquatics Team at Club Rancho Sahuarita. Each lifeguard is required to be certified through the Red Cross with first aid and CPR training. They must also be able to swim 300 meters continuously. All lifeguards are required to re-certify every two years to maintain their certification.

Aquatics Director, Marissa Telles explained that the lifeguards take their jobs very seriously. “The lifeguard staff continuously supervises the pool area and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and their guests.” In addition she says, “lifeguards complete daily cleaning and maintenance tasks in order to keep everything looking it’s best.”

Headguard duties include responding to emergencies, caring for injuries, sudden illnesses and other medical emergencies and monitoring the weather. They also ensure the lifeguard stations are adequately staffed and monitored and perform random training sessions with lifeguard staff to make sure they are ready for an emergency.

Thank you to each and every one of our Aquatics Staff for the outstanding job and effort you give each day.  Even in the hot temperatures you are out doing your part to help our residents Create a Better Life for themselves.  Thanks to your efforts, there have been minimal pool closures this year and residents are able enjoy a fun, clean and safe, pool area and Splash Park at Club Rancho Sahuarita.
