Summer 2018 Kicks Off with Splash Park Grand Opening Memorial Day Weekend
Raffles and giveaways, poolside music and Polynesian entertainment were all part of the Grand Opening Celebrations kicking off the start of summer fun for the whole family at Rancho Sahuarita this past weekend. A tradition that happens annually, the Grand Opening Celebration for the Splash Park at Club Rancho Sahuarita is never to be missed, as hundreds of residents gather to enjoy the festivities each year brings.
The summer opening of the Splash Park has been on the minds of many of our younger residents for quite some time now, and Saturday was finally the day! Children eagerly lined up with anticipation for the first huge splash of water from the “Big Bucket”. The water slides were a huge hit as well!
On Saturday, Moana and Maui stopped by to say, “Aloha” and to take pictures with children in attendance. Other activities for children included learning how to dance alongside Hawaiian Hula dancers, a limbo contest, crafts and a water balloon relay. Hawaiian dancers shared their culture through music and movement, and the crowd especially enjoyed the final number, performed by the fire dancer!
Residents then enjoyed a Concert Under the Stars on Saturday night with the “Tucson Retro Rockets” who delivered on their promise of playing 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music that everyone will sing and dance to. A moment of silence was also observed for Memorial Day to honor and remember those that served our great nation and sacrificed to protect our freedom.
The festivities continued into Sunday, as residents enjoyed poolside music, games on the Activities Lawn and more fun crafts. Root beer floats were also a welcomed treat on this hot, sunny day.
The weekend culminated Sunday night with the Movies Under the Stars event on the Activities lawn. Spider-Man and Iron Man made a special guest appearance, and adults and children donned t-shirts and costumes of their favorite superheroes.
Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer fun for the whole family at Rancho Sahuarita each year. And if this past weekend is any indication, residents are in for a treat with an incredible summer that is definitely off to a great start!
